Change to Login Page for Parents, Faculty and Staff

On Sunday, July 10, at 12:00 AM CST, RenWeb will release new security procedures, along with a new company website that includes new ParentsWeb and FacultyWeb login portals. As part of this change schools will need to update any links they may have that are tied to the current ParentsWeb and FacultyWeb login pages. The bottom of this announcement describes how to create the links to point to the new login screen. The new security procedures will provide user authentication using a user name and password system. With that change, Parents will be prompted for a District Code, User Name and Password when logging into the ParentsWeb. Faculty will also use a user name and password when logging into FacultyWeb.

User Name

To make the transition smoother we have initialized all user names based on a person’s email address in RenWeb.  People who share a common email address will be given a unique user name by appending a number to the end of the email address.  For example, if two parents share the email parents@gmail.com , then one will keep the original email for their user name and then the other will haveparents@gmail.com-2 . This ensures that every person in the system will have a unique user name. All users will be allowed to modify their username:   the only restriction is that the user name must be unique from all other users in the system. Users who attempt to create a user name that is already in use will be instructed to change it.

Password

The user’s password within the system has not changed except for faculty who are also parents. In the case of faculty who are also parents, they will keep the password used to log into RenWeb (Desktop and FacultyWeb access) and will use that same password to access ParentsWeb.

With this security upgrade, RenWeb will no longer store passwords in a viewable form in the database. Parents who forget their password can request to receive an email that will allow them to modify their password. There will be no ability for either the school or RenWeb support to view a parent’s or staff’s password. Faculty who forget their password will be required to go through a school administrator in order to change it. No faculty will be allowed to use the Forgot Password or Create User Account options on the ParentsWeb login screen. Faculty will also be subject to the school’s password restrictions including length of password, letter and number included and how often it must be changed.  Parents will not be required to change their password, but they will also be a part of the password length requirements.

Login Page Links

The new links for the login pages are as follows:

ParentsWeb
https://www.renweb.com/Logins/ParentsWeb-Login.aspx

All current links will remain active until September 1. Until that time the user will be prompted with a message that the page has moved.

We think you will find these updates more secure and to provide more user flexibility.  If you have any questions regarding this upgrade please reply to this email and our technical support staff will contact you regarding all questions you may have.
